Optical properties of gold nanoshell spheres and their application design Gold nanoshell spheres are spherical layered nanocomposite particles composed of a thin gold shell and an insulator core. In the core-shell structure of the nanoshell sphere, its plasmon resonance frequency changes systematically with the relative size of the core and shell. Using self-assembly and reduction chemistry, nanoshell spheres can be freely designed and manufactured so that the position of their plasmon resonance absorption peak is located in the near-infrared region of the spectrum. This unique optical property of gold nanoshell spheres reflects its controllability in artificial design and has broad application prospects in many fields such as drug sustained release, immunoassay, cancer treatment and imaging, and biosensing. This article reviews the research progress on the preparation, properties and applications of gold nanoshell spheres, and looks forward to the future development of gold nanoshell spheres.
