Abstract: The data sheet for the DS2714 stand-alone NiMH battery charger provides an application circuit that uses a PNP transistor to turn the charge current on and off. This approach can be problematic because the current sinking capability of the charge control pin limits the charge current that can flow through the PNP transistor. This application note describes how to avoid this problem by replacing the PNP transistor with an NMOS transistor when using the DS2714 chip.
