Flash-based SD memory cards offer a second communication protocol: SPI mode. This mode is a sub-setting of the SD memory card protocol, designed for communication over SPI channels, and is commonly found on microcontrollers from Motorola (and some newer other cores). The interface can be selected in the first reset command after power-on (CMD0), and cannot be changed after startup.
