Based on the theoretical research on transient characteristics of transient processes such as line faults, out-of-zone faults, and lightning strikes in ±800kV UHV DC systems, this paper uses wavelet transform to perform multi-scale analysis on various transient voltages. The analysis results show that the energy distribution characteristics of transient voltage fault components reveal the inherent characteristics of the corresponding transient processes. Using these characteristics to form transient protection criteria can reliably identify DC line faults. Through a large number of simulation calculations using PSCAD/EMTDC, it is verified that the principle has high reliability and fast action speed, which meets the requirements of fast, sensitive and reliable UHV DC line protection.
