The orthogonal controllable reactor is an important device for reactive power compensation, but it will generate a large number of harmonics due to its special magnetic circuit structure. In order to improve its performance, this paper proposes a low-harmonic orthogonal controllable reactor based on a current-source converter. Its basic structure is to add a harmonic compensation winding to the AC side of the traditional orthogonal controllable reactor. The current-source converter detects the harmonic components in the input current of the controllable reactor and generates a compensation current that is equal to the harmonic current and opposite in direction. It is coupled to the input current of the controllable reactor through the compensation winding, so that the input current is close to sinusoidal. This paper discusses the structure, working principle and control principle of this low-harmonic orthogonal controllable reactor, and uses Saber software for simulation analysis.
