Main technologies and standards for digital TV source coding This article introduces some main technologies and standards for digital TV source coding, including digital studio standard ITU--601, basic principles and methods of compression coding, image compression coding standards H261, JPEG and MPEG, and the formation of MPEG--2 code stream as the output of digital TV source coding standards. The development and research of digital TV systems including quasi-digital TV and digital high-definition TV are being stepped up. The United States has completed the formulation of the standard for digital high-definition TV called GA and its timetable for entering practical use. Europe is developing an independent digital TV solution and has formulated the standard for digital TV broadcasting DVB. All of this is based on the maturity of a series of technologies and standards for digital TV source coding. As the core component of the digital TV system, source coding directly determines the basic format of digital TV and its signal coding efficiency, and determines how digital TV is ultimately implemented in the actual system.
