The new grid rules require that wind turbines have low voltage ride-through capabilities. Rapidly and accurately detecting grid voltage drop faults is a prerequisite for the wind turbine main control and converter to perform corresponding control. The working principles and advantages and disadvantages of the conventional dq transformation method applicable to three-phase symmetrical faults, the improved dq transformation method applicable to single-phase asymmetric drop faults, and the positive sequence voltage detection method applicable to complex asymmetric drop faults are introduced and discussed in detail. The simulation and experimental results of the conventional dq transformation method and the improved dq transformation method show that these two methods can quickly and accurately detect grid voltage drop signals. The simulation results of the positive sequence voltage detection method show that this method can quickly and accurately detect the positive sequence component of the grid voltage under complex fault conditions.
