Application of soft starter in water plant

Combined with application examples, this article specifically analyzes the problems existing in full-pressure starting and reduced-pressure starting of water plant pumps, and introduces the functions and characteristics of special pump control soft starters in water plant applications. Keywords: full-pressure starting; reduced-pressure starting; soft starting; stop In the first phase of the third water plant in Quanzhou City, since the water intake pump room unit adopts auto-coupling reduced-pressure starting, the drainage pump room unit adopts full-pressure starting. Based on the characteristics that the fluid is not easily compressed and has momentum, during the start-up and stop stages of the unit, due to the sudden change of the fluid in the pipeline, the air gap in the fluid produces an impact to achieve balance, and the pressure generated by the impact causes an impact on the pipe wall and other equipment. Because both the instantaneous high water pressure and the instantaneous low water pressure can cause damage to the pipe wall, it is also easy to damage the valve and the mechanical parts of the unit. In the actual operation of the plant, especially in the drainage pump room, due to the frequent start-up of the pump, its equipment damage also occurs frequently. In the water intake pump room, the plant used auto-coupling step-down starting, which can reduce the impact of fluid on the pipe wall during starting, but it will also produce a sudden change in speed (flow) near the end of starting (full pressure switching), causing impact effects and leading to many undesirable results. In order to eliminate the adverse effects caused by the start and stop stages of the unit, Quanzhou No. 3 Water Plant used a special pump control soft starter to control the start and stop of the unit in the water intake pump room and drainage pump room during the second phase of the project construction, and achieved obvious results in actual application.
