With the development of power system, conventional PID excitation controller can no longer meet the dynamic and static performance requirements of system operation. In order to overcome this shortcoming, a new fuzzy PID controller is designed. On the basis of the conventional fuzzy PID excitation controller, a fuzzy controller optimized by genetic algorithm is proposed. The automatic excitation system of synchronous generator and the composition of fuzzy PID excitation controller, the principle and function of fuzzy PID controller are introduced. The simulation results show that the excitation controller designed by this method has better dynamic and static characteristics.
