Bjarne Stroustrup is the designer and original implementer of C++, and the leader of the ISO standard for the C++ language. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, ACM, and IEEE. He received a Ph.D. in computer science from Cambridge University in 1979. After graduation, he joined Bell Labs and served as the head of Bell Labs\' large-scale programming research department, where he led and invented C++. His research areas include: distributed systems, programming languages, and software development tools. In 2018, he won the Charles Stark Delapore Award from the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, which is known as the Nobel Prize in engineering. He is currently the managing director of Morgan Stanley\'s Technology Department and a visiting professor at Columbia University.
