Through the finite element simulation analysis of the urea synthesis tower under actual operation, it is pointed out that there is a high stress concentration at the weld toe inside the deep girth weld, which is the most vulnerable part of the entire tower. The on-site acoustic emission test results show that the weld toe inside the deep girth weld is the concentrated part of the acoustic emission signal source, which is consistent with the finite element analysis results. Through the analysis of various re-inspection technologies for acoustic emission sources, it is pointed out that TOFD ultrasonic imaging technology can accurately determine the geometric size and buried position of defects, and is currently the best re-inspection method for buried defects in deep girth welds of multi-layer plates.
