This paper describes the current research on 3D imaging in its common application areas, focusing on the study of high-resolution 3D imaging systems. 3D laser imaging is a technology that can be applied to the detection of hidden targets, terrain mapping, construction of virtual environments, urban modeling, target recognition and other fields. In regional imaging technology, in addition to more conventional technologies such as stereo vision and structured lighting, real-time 3D sensing is also realistically feasible. Current 3D laser imaging technology has developed to the point where it is capable of providing high-resolution 3D imaging at centimeter-level wavelengths, which will facilitate many fields, including law enforcement and forensic investigations. Compared with traditional passive imaging systems such as CCD and infrared technology, laser imaging technology can not only provide intensity and range information, but also penetrate specific scene elements such as vegetation and windows. This means that laser 3D imaging systems have new potential in target recognition and identification. The results show that laser 3D imaging systems can be used in many situations.
