Overhead crane is an important and commonly used transportation tool in factories, but the control of overhead crane remains at a relatively backward level. Usually, the overhead crane driver determines the height of the hook by relying on experience and visual observation. The disadvantages of this are low accuracy and waste of human resources. Based on the above considerations, this paper designs an electronic measurement system for testing the height of the hook rise and selects FPGA, which has developed rapidly in recent years, to complete it. This paper uses modular design ideas to decompose the system into independent modules and design them separately. Finally, these modules are integrated into an Altera EP1C6Q240C8 chip. After testing, the system works normally and fully meets the design requirements. Keywords: VHDL; FPGA; modularity
