Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) is used to transmit analog signals over digital transmission media. In PCM, the analog signal is first sampled at a Nyquist rate greater than twice its bandwidth, and then the resulting samples are quantized. The PCM codes generated using different quantization levels affect the quality of the analog signal reconstructed at the receiver.
