Performance and Application of TVS Transient Interference Suppressor Performance and Application of TVS Transient Interference Suppressor Abstract: This paper describes the mechanism of transient interference in electronic equipment, introduces the working principle, characteristic parameters and design application of TVS transient interference suppression devices in electronic equipment. Keywords: transient interference; TVS; design application transient interference Transient interference refers to the instantaneous interference signals such as surge voltage, ringing voltage, spark discharge, etc. on the AC power grid. Its characteristics are extremely short action time, high voltage amplitude and large transient energy. Transient interference will cause fluctuations in the power supply voltage of the control system; when the transient voltage is superimposed on the input voltage of the control system, the voltage input to the control system exceeds the limit voltage of the internal components of the system, it will damage the equipment inside the control system, so suppression measures must be taken. Silicon transient voltage absorption diode The work of silicon transient voltage absorption diode is a bit like an ordinary voltage regulator. It is a clamping type interference absorption device; its application is to be used in parallel with the protected equipment. Silicon transient voltage absorption diode has extremely fast response time (sub-nanosecond level) and quite high surge absorption capacity, and a wide range of voltage grades. It can be used to protect equipment or circuits from static electricity, transient voltages generated when inductive loads are switched, and overvoltages generated by inductive lightning. TVS tubes are available in two types: unidirectional (single diode) and bidirectional (two diodes connected back to back). Their main parameters are breakdown voltage, leakage current and capacitance. The breakdown voltage of the TVS tube in use should be about 10% higher than the working voltage of the protected circuit to prevent the TVS leakage current from affecting the normal operation of the circuit due to the line working voltage approaching the TVS breakdown voltage; it also prevents the TVS tube breakdown voltage from falling into the range of the normal working voltage of the line due to changes in ambient temperature. TVS tubes have a variety of packaging forms, such as axial lead products that can be used on power feeders; dual in-line and surface mount are suitable for protection of logic circuits, I/O buses and data buses on printed boards. TVS characteristics The circuit symbol of TVS is the same as that of ordinary voltage regulator tubes. Its voltage-current characteristic curve is shown in Figure 1. Its forward characteristics are the same as those of ordinary diodes, and its reverse characteristics are typical PN junction avalanche devices. Figure 2 is the current-time and voltage-time curves of TVS. Under the action of surge voltage, TVS...
