The MAX9597 single SCART matrix switch switches audio and video signals between a set-top box decoder chip and two external SCART controllers under I²C control. The MAX9597 operates from 3.3V and 12V supplies, consuming 53mW quiescent power and 254mW average power with typical signals driving typical loads. The MAX9597 audio circuitry provides independent op amps for the left and right channels of the audio input. The DirectDrive® output amplifiers generate a ground-referenced 2VRMS full-scale audio signal, eliminating the need for bulky output capacitors and reducing clicks and pops. Zero-crossing detection circuitry switches the audio signal only at zero crossings, further reducing clicks and pops. The MAX9597 video section includes four video filter amplifiers. The standard-definition video signal from the set-top box decoder chip is lowpass filtered to eliminate out-of-band noise. The MAX9597 also supports both slow and fast signal switching. The MAX9597 is available in a compact 28-pin thin QFN package and operates over the 0°C to +70°C commercial temperature range.
