Centrifugal pumps do not have self-priming ability, but ballast, bilge, daily seawater and freshwater pumps, tanker stripping pumps, etc. all require self-priming. There are three ways to achieve self-priming for marine centrifugal pumps: Self-priming centrifugal pumps use special pump casings or the main pump has its own water-priming vacuum pump. Automatic water-priming device is attached to ordinary centrifugal pumps to extract air. The vacuum box centralized water-priming system uses a vacuum pump to automatically control a vacuum box to maintain a sufficient vacuum degree, and use several air extraction pipes to connect to the suction ports of all centrifugal pumps that need water-priming. Vacuum box centralized water-priming is suitable for a ship with many centrifugal pumps that need self-priming.
