GIS has been widely used in power systems due to its high operational reliability, easy maintenance, and small footprint. However, during the operation of disconnectors, grounding switches, and circuit breakers, fast transient processes will occur. The main manifestations are: fast transient overvoltage on the GIS busbar bushing, transient ground potential increase on the GIS shell, and transient electromagnetic fields generated in the space around the GIS. This paper mainly analyzes and discusses the generation and propagation mechanism of transient electromagnetic fields caused by fast transient processes and its impact on GIS cables and transformers connected to GIS.
