The ML86V8208 is an LCD display controller for driving small to medium sized video display panels used in applications such as automotive television. It includes an onboard video decoder and scaler. The controller handles the necessary processing for video signal color conversion, interlaced/progressive conversion, scaling, Gamma control (nonlinear conversion) and On Screen Display (OSD). It outputs VGA or W-VGA resolutions in TFT-LDC display data format. The video decoder has eight analog video inputs and a digital video input. Its built-in 3-channel A/D converter supports composite, S-video and component (RGB or YpbPr) video inputs. The digital video input supports 24-bit RGB, 24-bit YCbCr (4:4:4), 16-bit YCbCr (4:2:2) or 8-bit ITU-R BT.656 formats. The digital input can be in either interlaced or progressive scan format. Onboard Interlace to progressive conversion function is handled using Intra-field interpolation or an external device (Oki\'s ML87V2103), can be used which has Video noise reduction as well as Interlace to progressive conversion functions.
