The working situation of the flyback transformer in automotive HID electronic ballast was analyzed. Based on the analysis,a practical design method was presented to achieve the appropriate parameters of the flyback transformer. The selection of magnetic core as well as the design of turns,air gap and winding was discussed in detail. The experimental results show that this design method can not only ensure that the transformer meets the working requirements, but also achieve higher circuit conversion efficiency.
