At present, the global positioning system (Navigation Satellite Timing And Ranging Global Position System, referred to as GPS) is widely used in the fields of ship navigation, aerospace, geographic surveying and mapping, especially the mobile positioning system is of great significance to the current urban traffic management. This paper analyzes the practical problems in the current traffic management and introduces a design method of a vehicle-mounted terminal. The embedded system designed with the S3C2410 microprocessor with ARM9 core can realize the reception and processing of GPS positioning information, and adopts the embedded Linux operating system, combined with the open Linux graphics software Qt, which can provide data support for the subsequent establishment of the geographic information system (Geographic information system, referred to as GIS). It is a new electronic product that integrates GPS global satellite positioning system and general packet radio service (General Packet Radio Service, referred to as GPRS) wireless communication technology. It provides a novel, reliable and effective control and management method for modern transportation. The vehicle-mounted terminal extracts the positioning information of the GPS module, displays the positioning information on the vehicle-mounted terminal on the one hand, and sends it out through the GPRS module in combination with the vehicle status information on the other hand. The information is transmitted to the vehicle management department through the wireless public network. The vehicle management department provides differential correction of GPS data based on the location and status of the vehicle, combined with the map information in the GIS system, and takes certain measures to achieve effective management of the vehicle. This design starts from two major parts: hardware and software. The hardware is designed with ARM processor, memory, memory and its peripheral circuits, as well as GPS module circuit and GPRS module circuit; the software uses Qt\'s human-machine interface to complete data display and update, uses PPP dial-up script to complete the dial-up of the GPRS module, and uses Qt multi-threaded programming to complete GPS data extraction and GPRS information sending. An embedded Linux system is used between hardware and software, including startup code, kernel and file system.
