This paper introduces a method for 3D reconstruction of tree branches using a 3D laser scanner. First, a series of coordinate data of tree branches are obtained using a laser scanner, and then a series of fragment models of tree branches are reconstructed by screening these data. Finally, these fragment models are spliced to obtain a 3D model of the complete branch. The branch model reconstructed by this method is composed of a series of cylinders superimposed in space. The model obtained by this 3D reconstruction method can be used in the fields of measuring tree breast height and estimating trunk taper and inclination, and has achieved good results in practical applications.
