The structure and principle of limiting current oxygen sensor are discussed. A diffusion-controlled limiting current oxygen sensor with porous coating on electrolyte substrate and Pt electrode made of nanometer (20-30nm) YSZ powder is fabricated. The output characteristics of the sensor are measured in the range of 0-37% (mol) oxygen and 600-700℃. The results show that under the above conditions and in the voltage range of V = 0.3-1.3V, the limiting current (IL) is linearly related to the oxygen concentration; IL∝ T0.6, indicating that the diffusion mechanism is a mixed diffusion control composed of molecules and Knudsen. Keywords: limiting current; oxygen sensor; diffusion control; nanometer YSZ
