Abstract: This paper discusses the scientific basis, technical scope, current status and trends in the field of biomaterial surface engineering, and describes some of the author\'s research work and results in this field. Keywords: biomaterials; surface engineering; biocompatibility; specific recognition Surface engineering of biomaterials refers to surface modification based on the understanding of the interfacial behavior of the interaction between materials and organisms, with the purpose of regulating such interfacial interactions. At present, the understanding of the interfacial behavior of the interaction between materials and organisms is mainly at the tissue and cell level, and the understanding at the molecular level is still relatively small. However, the understanding of the basic process and influencing factors of the biological response caused by materials has made important progress as a whole, such as the understanding of the cascade reaction process of coagulation caused by materials and the main factors affecting coagulation (the role of coagulation factors and/or proteins, cells (such as platelets, white blood cells, red blood cells, endothelial cells, etc.), the trauma recovery process of implanted materials in the body and the formation rules of interface biological tissues (such as the release behavior and role of related growth factors; cell division, chemotaxis, proliferation, migration, etc.; inflammation, tissue repair, remodeling and fiber wrapping caused by the interaction between organisms and material surfaces). Therefore, it has also promoted the development of surface modification of materials.
