Thermoelectric power generation relies on the Peltier effect, which is commonly used in semiconductor cooling chips in CPU heat sinks and pocket refrigerators. Usually, when we apply current to the cooling chip, one side will become hotter and the other side will become colder. But this effect can also be reversed: as long as there is a temperature difference between the two ends of the cooling chip, a voltage will be generated.
