  Applying artificial neural network models to antenna design can improve the efficiency and accuracy of antenna design. Once an artificial neural network is successfully trained, when it is used again for antenna design, the learning and generalization capabilities of the neural network can be fully utilized to improve the design efficiency of the antenna. This paper reviews some of the latest research results on the application of neural networks in antenna design at home and abroad in recent years. From the aspects of neural network structure and algorithm, the neural network models frequently used in antenna design are explained. From the application of antenna characteristics, the research progress of neural networks in terms of radiation patterns, operating frequencies, return losses and smart antenna design is explained. Finally, the development trend of artificial neural network applications in antenna design is prospected.
