A phase-locked loop is a feedback system in which a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and a phase comparator are connected so that the oscillator can maintain a constant phase angle relative to a reference signal. A phase-locked loop can be used to generate a stable output high-frequency signal from a fixed low-frequency signal, for example.
