Designers of high power amplifiers (HPAs) for CDMA2000 and W-CDMA base stations face many challenges in making accurate transmit power measurements. Complicating factors include high peak-to-average ratios and variations in peak-to-average ratios with base station talk loads, wide operating temperature ranges, and wide transmit power ranges. Manufacturers use accurate rms output power measurements to reduce the power of HPAs.
