What is a 100V, 1A synchronous buck converter? What does it do? March 12, 2019, Beijing News - Texas Instruments recently launched a wide input voltage (VIN) synchronous DC/DC buck converter with industry-leading combination of light load efficiency, ease of design and overall power solution cost. The 100V, 1-A Lm5164 step-down voltage converter reduces board space for rugged battery-powered industrial and automotive power supplies. This new DC/DC converter works with Texas Instruments' WEBENCH® PowerDesigner to enable simpler, faster power conversion designs. For more information, samples and evaluation modules (EVM).

Texas Instruments will demonstrate the LM5164 buck converter and the LM5180 primary-side regulated flyback converter at the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) in Anaheim, Calif., March 18-20, 2019, in booth #511 device. Read a brief article on Texas Instruments' latest power innovations at APEC, such as new products and end-to-end power management system solutions, including hardware, software and reference designs that help engineers get to market quickly.

The LM5164 is an easy-to-use, ultra-low quiescent current (IQ) synchronous buck regulator with a constant on-time (COT) control architecture and integrated high-side and low-side power MOSFETs. The high-efficiency buck converter operates with a wide input voltage from 6 V to 100 V and can deliver up to 1A of DC load current. The COT architecture requires no external compensation, while the internal VCC bias supply and bootstrap diodes require no additional capacitors. Read how designers implemented longer-lasting 13S, 48V Li-ion battery packs for e-bikes and e-scooters, and download the accurately measured and 50µA standby current, 13S, 48V Li-ion battery pack reference design.

Automotive grade LM5164-Q1 is also available. Watch the video to learn how to use the LM5164-Q1 to power a motor drive inverter in a 48 V/12 V mild hybrid electric vehicle.

The LM5164 and LM5164-Q1 join TI's family of highly integrated wide-VIN DC/DC converters, allowing designers to maximize power delivery in smaller packages.

Key Features and Benefits of the LM5164

- Shrinking board space: The new device’s thermally efficient, small-outline integrated circuit (SOIC) PowerPAD™ package measures 5 mm x 6 mm, which is 30% smaller than competing products. Designers can use the LM5164 to create a complete power supply design of 105 mm2, which is more than 10% smaller than competing products.

- High light-load efficiency: The Lm5164 provides an extremely low 10-μA typical standby quiescent current. This enables 10% light-load efficiency compared to competing solutions, enabling 24 V to 5 V conversion at 1-mA loads and extending battery life.

-Simple, cost-effective design: Standard 8-pin SOIC package, few external components and WEBENCH® Power Designer simplify design and reduce costs. The above is the analysis of 100V, 1A synchronous buck converter, I hope it can help you.
