Let's talk about MFI certified data cables.[Copy link]

Apple MFi certification is a logo use license issued by Apple Inc. to its authorized accessory manufacturers for external accessories. Apple MFi certification, Sometimes I wonder why the plug also needs to be certified, and is there any technological content... Apple's data cable has a certification chip. Only MFI-certified data cables can charge, otherwise it will prompt "uncertified iPhone cable" and cannot charge! However, this chip has been cracked now. Many manufacturers have made their own chips, which can charge, but they may break... Although MFi certification is a guarantee of quality, it is also a pair of shackles for users and manufacturers. The Lightning data cable is not a simple cable, but a connector, because it has 4 chips built in, including the key Apple certification chip, which together with the power management IC of the mobile phone form a complete charging solution. MFi certification is actually the same as the original data cable... To put it bluntly, it is the so-called ecological chain of Apple products... Apple data cables sold on the market can be roughly divided into three types: 1 is the original Apple data cable, 2 is the third-party data cable launched by the accessory manufacturer, and 3 is the copycat data cable. Among them, the Apple data cables produced by third-party manufacturers are also distinguished by whether they have obtained MFI (Made for iPhone) certification. Apple's original data cables are too expensive, and the copycat data cables are not dared to be used. At this time, everyone will choose to buy third-party data cables. The Lightning data cables of third-party regular brands are not only cheaper than the original data cables, but also of the same quality as the original Apple ones. There are two types of Apple MFi certification: development license certification and production license certification. Manufacturers who want to develop or help develop but do not produce accessories can apply for MFi development certification; companies that want to produce accessories and have production equipment can apply for MFi production license certification. The following figure shows the basic characteristics of the two types of certification. Apple encourages companies to apply for developer MFi authorization.
Apple iPhone and iPad data cable wires are mostly made of TPE wire material. The characteristics of this TPE data cable material are as follows: 1. TPE material has excellent processing performance and can be adjusted to various colors. The most common colors on the market are white or light gray. 2. Data cables made of TPE feel smooth and non-sticky, and can achieve a frosted or delicate data cable surface. 3. By adjusting the formula of TPE, the aging resistance and anti-yellowing UV performance of the wire can be improved, and the service life of the product can be extended. 4. TPE raw materials are safe and non-toxic, will not irritate human skin, and do not contain toxic plasticizers. It is the best choice to replace PVC wires. 5. TPE data cables have stable performance and halogen-free flame retardant V0 level, which plays a great role in safety and environmental protection performance. The outside of the wire is made of TPE material, which looks plain, but there are still many tricks inside. It depends on how many small wires are wrapped in the big wire and how many cores are wrapped in the small wire. The cores are respectively: iron core < galvanized iron core < copper-plated iron core < copper wire, and copper wire is the best. Common ones on the market are 1 wire wrapped with 6 cores, 8 cores, 10 cores, and 12 cores. Of course, the more cores, the better if the material is the same.
Both the original data cable and the MFI certified data cable have a silver metal braided shielding net wrapped around the outside of the wire, and there is an aluminum foil shielding layer under the metal shielding net. The function of the shielding net is to prevent the interference electromagnetic field from spreading outward and prevent them from being affected by the external electromagnetic field. As for why the shielding layer is needed? It is because the current passing through the power cable is relatively large, or when transferring data at high speed, a magnetic field will be generated around the current. In order not to affect other components, a shielding layer is added.
After disassembling, the counterfeit data cable does not have a metal mesh wrapped around the wire, but only a simple signal shielding layer. The copycat data cable lacks the double-layer shielding process set by Apple, and cannot guarantee the stability of signal transmission. It may cause problems such as disconnection and short circuit over a long period of time.
There is a shielding shell on the Lightning plug, which is used to: Protect the Lightning plug. Allow the Lightning plug to withstand a vertical downward pressure of 100N (about 10 kg) after being inserted into the device. It can better protect the wire from being released from the inner mold and extend the service life of the wire. There is not much difference between the original, MFi certified and copycat data cables in terms of wire materials, but the difference in the plug part is quite large. Below is an MFi certified Lightning data cable with a USB-A port on one end and a Lightning port on the other end.
Charging the iPhone 6s Plus, the current can reach 1.83A, At this time, the phone's battery is 73% Cut open the cross section of the wire, and you can see the thin copper wire and the three red, white and green wires inside
With the outer skin removed, the MFi certification is well-deserved. The shielding net is very tight and dense. There are four wires, in addition to the red, white and green wires, there is also a ground wire. Each wire is composed of multiple strands of copper wire, and no anti-pull wire is seen.
