Computer Aided Industrial Design Bus Design Example [Copy link]

After NOVA DESIGN established a development base in Shanghai in 2003, it established a joint venture with Xiamen King Long United Automobile Industry Co., Ltd. in 2005. Its main business in the early stage was to cooperate with King Long Bus Company to participate in the design and development of new bus products. This article is an overview of the entire design process of the new project "New King Long Bus Design Case K01".

In recent years, the economic growth of mainland China has changed the general public's values of leisure life and vacation mode, thus promoting the rise and development of the tourism industry, driving the market of tourist passenger transport and highway passenger transport, and injecting new vitality into bus sales. Tourist vehicles have become a new demand in the bus market. Because all the work from product planning, styling design, direction finalization, engineering design prototype to production completion must be completed within a limited time and space, the R&D department of King Long Bus and Nova Design actively carried out planning, applied new design technologies and processes, and set the execution axis in three major directions: digitalization of design, process specialization and rationalization of development and production; the entire process applied computer-aided design technology (CAID, CAD, CAM, CAE) to achieve high-efficiency and high-quality synchronous engineering design.

Project background and development

Nova Design takes "design digitalization" as the company's development strategy, and ensures the quality of design services through project management (PM) and ISO quality certification. Since its establishment in 1988, it has promoted computerization (C), networking (e) to knowledge management (K), and gradually built a global industrial design network. Haohan Design has professional achievements in transportation products (cars, motorcycles, electric bicycles, walkers). Over the years, it has designed and developed more than 100 new products, and more than 5 million units of products are running on the roads of Taiwan, mainland China, Southeast Asia, Europe, South America, etc.!

King Long Bus is one of the largest bus manufacturers in China. Its products, the Pentium series, have been in the market since they were launched in 2001. The follow-up product "Eurostar" launched in 2003 also dominated the mainland bus market and became the only domestic car that can compete with imported models. Therefore, the new product K01 of this series is important and will continue to be the leading model of King Long. Based on the

advantages of both parties, King Long Bus and Haohan Design have clarified the background and expectations of new product design and development through close communication, and fully cooperated to complete the design and development of the whole vehicle. The design and development process of K01 can be divided into three stages: "problem conceptualization, concept visualization, and design commercialization".

Concept Definition Conceptualization of the problem:

First, we need to have a comprehensive understanding of the bus product. Through information collection and market research, we can explore the competitive situation of similar products in the market, sales status (the background and reasons for success and failure), market usage (including consumer culture and habits, usage and development needs), as well as the international bus development trend and other related popular things in the market. Of course, the most important thing is to focus on the company's development strategy, and then plan the overall "concept" of the new product!

The process of concept formation requires information, experience and conversion capabilities, that is, how to convert information intelligence to produce meaningful creative directions in the market! It is entangled with a bunch of complex information and needs from aesthetics, engineering, and business studies, and converts the market's consumer trend information and the company's strategy into a consensus concept. Such a concept is usually described in text format, and will define "market positioning", "target customer group", "product appeal", "performance characteristics" and "price positioning" in a list of definitional items!
