Technical guidance: How to use copper holes and copper grooves in Protel 99 SE and AD [Copy link]


PROTEL's metal slot method:
It is emphasized that the drawing method in Figure 3 below is not advisable. This drawing method is inconsistent. For example, the slot frame line (pink line) is not on the same layer as the board frame line.
It will miss the frame line and the finished product actually only has one hole.
It is recommended that Protel 99 SE design long slots using the following figure, using Pad to stack holes one by one to form a long slot.
Although it takes some time to draw, this finished product is the effect you want. Due to the limitations of the software itself, please standardize the design according to the figure below.
AD can directly draw the slot as shown below:
This software can select Slot to design the slot, which is very convenient, as shown below:
Emphasis on Rect (please do not use square hole slots). The actual production operation you draw will not be able to meet the 90-degree right angle. By default, oval round holes and round grooves are made (caused by the production process. The square holes and square grooves in the figure are made by gongs and drills, and the gong cutters and drills themselves have a diameter (such as 1.6 mm and 1.8 mm gong cutters and drills). Therefore, the corners of the square holes will produce a 45-degree fillet with a diameter of 1.6 mm or 1.8 mm)
