ABB continues to lead the new substation automation regulations[Copy link]
ABB, a power and automation technology giant, has been approved today to become the global compatibility test center for the IEC61850 communication protocol for substation automation. ABB is the first manufacturer to be officially certified as a compatibility test center according to the standards of the international expert organization UCA.
The certification confirms that ABB's System Identification and Verification Center in Baden, Switzerland can perform IEC61850 compatibility tests and recognizes that the results are in compliance with the UCA organization's quality assurance test process project regulations. The IEC 61850 communication protocol makes it easier for substation automation equipment such as protection relays, bay level control devices and engineering tools to exchange information. According to the regulations of the UCA organization, if relevant products need to obtain compatibility certification for the protocol, they must pass the unified and strict tests of its test center.
As the protocol continues to be promoted and the corresponding products are used more and more, the importance of certification laboratories will become more prominent.
ABB's protection and control products business unit in China is its wholly-owned company Xiamen ABB Transmission and Distribution Automation Equipment Co., Ltd.
