Differences between NAND flash and NOR flash in software support[Copy link]
The disadvantage of NAND flash memory is that it has a slow read speed. It has only 8 I/O ports, which is much less than NOR. These 8 I/O ports can only complete data transmission by transmitting signals in turn, which is much slower than the parallel transmission mode of NOR flash memory. In addition, the logic of NAND flash memory is an electronic disk module structure, and there is no dedicated storage controller inside. Once a bad block of data occurs, it cannot be repaired, and its reliability is worse than that of NOR flash memory. When discussing software support, we should distinguish between basic read/write/erase operations and higher-level software for disk emulation and flash management algorithms, including performance optimization. Running code on NOR devices does not require any software support. The same operations on NAND devices usually require a driver, the Memory Technology Driver (MTD). Both NAND and NOR devices require an MTD for write and erase operations. NOR devices require fewer MTDs. Many vendors offer more advanced software for NOR devices, including M-Systems' TrueFFS driver, which is used by Wind River Systems, Microsoft, QNX Software Systems, Symbian, and Intel. Drivers are also used to emulate DiskOnChip products and manage NAND flash memory, including error correction, bad block handling, and wear leveling. NAND flash memory is widely used in emerging digital devices such as mobile storage, digital cameras, MP3 players, and PDAs. Driven by the strong development of digital devices, NAND flash memory has been growing exponentially at an ultra-high speed. NAND is expected to surpass NOR in the near future to become the dominant flash memory technology. Shenzhen Leilong Development Co., Ltd. has been engaged in the NANDFLASH industry for more than 10 years. It currently represents ATO Solution's small-capacity SLC NAND, SPI NAND, MCP; large-capacity NAND Flash, eMMC, eMCP, SSD, etc. For more information, please consult QQ: 2852826868; Tel: 13691982107
