Qualcomm provides OFDMA wireless patent license to broadband equipment manufacturers [Copy link]

Qualcomm Incorporated recently announced that it has granted wireless broadband access technology provider SOMA Networks a global user and system equipment patent license to develop, produce and sell OFDM/OFDMA user units, modem cards and system equipment.

In recent years, the broadband wireless market is rapidly gaining popularity and growth around the world. As wireless standards continue to evolve, SOMA Networks, as a major member of the WiMAX Forum, needs to provide customers with technical licenses for the main patents necessary for the OFDMA standard. Currently, SOMA Networks' solutions are still applicable in the future, especially through the agreement signed with Qualcomm, which ensures the clear right to use Qualcomm's intellectual property rights in the recently released SoftAir FlexMAX solution.

SOMA Networks plans to accelerate the time to market of broadband wireless access products and services, increase average revenue per user, and quickly obtain a return on investment. The SoftAir wireless system integrates an all-IP multimedia application platform, base stations, and non-line-of-sight user gateways, and combines WiMAX standards with advanced antenna technology, distributed computing, network protocols, and high-quality VoIP transmission to provide broadband wireless system equipment with features comparable to those of wired networks.

SOMA Networks' base stations and user gateways are currently deployed by service providers around the world and feature easy deployment, support for frequency bands from 700MHz to 3.5GHz, multi-megabit data rates, high voice quality, non-line-of-sight access, user-installation, and service activation.
