Wide range of trimmer capacitors in chip packaging [Copy link]

Banner Postiion End Trimmer capacitors

Of course, most engineers complain that trimmer capacitors add to the size of their printed circuit boards ( PCBs ) until they try the new J-series ceramic chip capacitors from Voltronics (Denville, NJ). With a wide range of individual component capacitances from 10 to 120 pF and self- resonant frequencies up to 6 GHz, they are widely available and engineers no longer have to sacrifice PCB space to implement trimming capabilities.

The J series ceramic chip capacitors (shown) are ideal for surface mount and PCB applications. With seven different package styles in the series, engineers can easily balance their sizes to achieve the trimming range: the largest J series trimming capacitors offer the widest capacitance trimming range. The JB series measures a "massive" 0.236 × 0.236 × 0.189 inches (6 × 6 × 4.8 mm) and offers the largest available capacitance trimming range, with models JB900 and JB1200 offering adjustable ranges of 9 to 90 pF and 10 to 120 pF, respectively.

The resonant frequencies (SRF) of these trimmer capacitors (specified at the highest available capacitance setting) are 200 and 170 MHz, respectively. Other members of the JB series include the Model JB023, which has a capacitance trimming range of 1.25 to 2.3 pF and an SRF of 1.4 GHz, and the Model JB050, which has a capacitance trimming range of 1.5 to 5.0 pF and an SRF of 0.9 GHz.

For engineers who only need adjustable capacitance in a small range (pF), the small JN series trimmer capacitors measure only 0.067 × 0.059 × 0.035 inches (1.7 × 1.5 × 0.9 mm), but provide adjustable capacitance from 1.5 to 4.0 pF for the model JN040 and 3 to 8 pF for the model JN080. The SRF (specified in the capacitance setting for their maximum capacitance) for the JN040 and JN080 are 2.7 and 1.8 GHz, respectively. The JN series trimmer capacitors, and the J series components in general, have very little change in capacitance with temperature changes, as evidenced by the following data: Over the operating temperature range of –25 to +85°C, the temperature coefficient for the JN040 is 0 ± 500 PPM/uC, and for the JN080 it is -750 ± 500 PPM/uC.

For particularly critical mounting requirements, the JZ and JR series feature no exposed metal mechanisms under the ceramic die package. The JZ series measures 0.177 × 0.126 × 0.059 inches (4.5 × 3.2 × 1.5 mm). Capacitor trimming ranges in the series include 1.5 to 3.0pF (Model JZ030I), 2 to 6pF (Model JZ060), 3 to 8pF (Model JZ080), 5.5 to 30pF (Model JZ300), and 8 to 40pF (Model JZ400). The minimum Q range is 500 to 1500 at 1MHz. The temperature coefficient of JZ030 is 0±200PPM/?C.
