Shenzhen chip design market has huge potential[Copy link]
Source: Shenzhen Special Zone Daily [Reporter Yang Liuchun] Yesterday, the "2006 China Digital TV Chip and Solution Summit Forum" was held in Shenzhen. Experts attending the forum believe that with the release of the PCMCIA machine-card separation standard and the entry of products into the market, the chip design industry is welcoming a market opportunity worth tens of billions of yuan. Shenzhen chip companies with considerable comparative advantages can seize this opportunity to accelerate development.
The forum was jointly sponsored by the Shenzhen Semiconductor Industry Association, the National Integrated Circuit Design Shenzhen Industrialization Base, and the Shenzhen Digital TV R&D and Industrialization Office.
Machine-card separation is the general trend.
In April this year, the state announced 25 industry standards related to digital television, including the machine-card separation standard. Zhao Xinhua, secretary-general of the National Audio and Video Standards Committee, said that machine-card separation can effectively promote the industrialization of set-top boxes and digital TV all-in-one machines. CAM products developed by manufacturers such as Shenzhen Guowei and Datang Microelectronics using the PCMCIA machine-card separation solution have passed the testing and certification of relevant departments and have been put into mass production, which has a driving effect on the large-scale application of machine-card separation all-in-one machines.
According to Gong Jun, vice president of SMIC, Shenzhen has a comparative advantage in the research and development and production of integrated digital TV sets with separate card. Color TV manufacturers such as Skyworth, Konka, and TCL have all launched integrated sets with separate card. Set-top box manufacturers such as Tongzhou, Jiuzhou, and Tsinghua Tongfang have also launched set-top boxes with separate card based on the PCMCIA interface. At present, more than 80% of the world's PCM?CIA network cards are manufactured in China, mainly in Shenzhen and surrounding areas. It can be seen that Shenzhen's production technology and processing capabilities for integrated digital TV sets with separate card are quite mature. In addition, driven by the news that integrated digital TV sets will be popularized nationwide in the US market in 2007, the demand in the international market is gradually heating up, which has greatly driven the development and production of integrated digital TV sets with separate card in China.
Huge business opportunities in chip design
Experts pointed out that the separation of card requires a dedicated chip module for conditional reception, a dedicated interface chip in the receiver, and a small CPU embedded in the card. The realization of the separation technology of card and machine is expected to bring an industrial scale of tens of billions of yuan to Shenzhen's chip industry. At present, there are not many domestic enterprises involved in digital TV chip design. Haier, Shenzhen Guowei, Shenzhen Lihe and other enterprises have developed related products in the fields of source decoding and channel decoding. Therefore, Shenzhen chip design enterprises can seize the opportunity to make a breakthrough in digital TV chips and various interfaces such as HDCP, DVI, HDMI, format conversion, 1394, and SOC chip design.
Experts at the meeting pointed out that chip design enterprises should get rid of traditional design concepts, rely on system technology, support application solutions and services, and give full play to their advantages of keeping close to the market and serving the local market.
There was a post before about Zhuhai, and I found one about Shenzhen. As for which one will become the third pole, I don’t think we can see it all at once, it will take at least 10 years.
