China Semiconductor Industry Association to apply to become a member of the World Semiconductor Council
The Semiconductor Industry Association of the United States said that the joining of the China Semiconductor Industry Association will enhance the influence of this global organization
2006-06-15

At the invitation of the World Semiconductor Council ( WSC ), the China Semiconductor Industry Association ( CSIA ) has begun applying for membership in the WSC . The WSC is an international organization composed of industry associations from major semiconductor manufacturing countries / regions around the world. The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) of the United States warmly welcomes the decision of the CSIA , believing that the gradual involvement of Chinese industry associations indicates that China's continued development of the microelectronics industry will greatly benefit the member countries of the organization, and will enable the WSC to more effectively promote the growth of the semiconductor industry and promote the freedom and openness of markets around the world.

WSC 's membership covers industry associations in most of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturing regions.

At its annual meeting held in San Francisco last month, WSC unanimously agreed to invite CSIA to join the global organization. WSC was founded in 1996 to promote cooperation among semiconductor industry associations and promote open market principles and the healthy development of the semiconductor industry.

Mr. Brian Halla , SIA Chairman, 2006 WSC Chairman and CEO of National Semiconductor Corporation , said: "We strongly support the China Semiconductor Industry Association's application to join the World Semiconductor Council. China has now become the world's largest and fastest growing semiconductor market, and therefore plays an important role in the future development of the microchip industry. At the same time, China's domestic semiconductor industry will also benefit from actively participating in WSC activities. Because in terms of protecting intellectual property rights, eliminating trade barriers, reducing consumer costs and protecting the environment, WSC has become an increasingly important cooperation forum within the industry."

The news was announced at a signing ceremony jointly held by WSC and CSIA in Beijing a few days ago .June 14, SIA held its first board meeting in Beijing.

About SIA

SIA is the semiconductor industry's leading voice and has represented U.S. semiconductor companies since 1977. Currently, the U.S. chip industry employs 225,000 domestic employees . For more information about SIA , please visit:www.sia-online.org.
