2004-04-26
ON Semiconductor recently announced that it has joined the Mobile Industry Processor Interface Alliance (MIPI Alliance) and has been accepted as a facilitator member. The company will participate in its system power management research group. This alliance is a non-profit association whose goal is to define and promote open standard specifications for mobile communication application processor interfaces. These open standards are intended to simplify the execution of hardware and software, promote the reuse of mobile communication devices, and accelerate the launch of products. "We are pleased to become a member of the MIPI Alliance," said Keith Jackson, President and CEO of ON Semiconductor. "The addition of features such as cameras, enhanced audio and the Internet continues to increase the demand for power management systems in portable devices. ON Semiconductor's extensive experience in the mobile phone and portable computer markets makes us an ideal partner, providing solution knowledge that supports the MIPI Alliance's goals of open architecture and hardware interoperability. We look forward to being an active participant in the MIPI Alliance." "ON Semiconductor decided to join the MIPI Alliance in part because we believe that open industry standards will be the dominant force that determines the business environment in the mobile communications industry in the next few years," said Andy Khayat, Director of Portable Applications Marketing at ON Semiconductor. "We will advance our high-performance portable product development roadmap in accordance with MIPI Alliance standards so that our customers can take advantage of shorter development cycles and advanced system capabilities." About MIPI Alliance The Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI) Alliance is a collaboration among mobile industry leaders to define and promote open standards for mobile application processor interfaces. Through these open standards, the MIPI Alliance hopes to establish standard hardware and software interface specifications for mobile communication application processors and encourage the adoption of these standards throughout the industry's value chain, thereby accelerating the launch of new services for mobile communication users. The MIPI Alliance aims to supplement the existing standard system with a focus on microprocessors, peripherals and software interfaces.
