About 1,000 Royal Bank of Scotland ( RBS ) staff began testing RFID payment cards this week at the bank's Edinburgh headquarters, which consumers can buy at eight commercial locations, including Starbucks coffee chain and Tesco Express. RBS is working with Mastercard (http://www.mastercardinternational.com/ ) , whose PayPass RFID payment devices using ISO-14443 are now in use throughout the United States, to conduct the first tests. The cards contain a connectivity-based Maestro chip for debit transactions, so testers can use the cards at any retailer that accepts Maestro. The PayPass feature is only available at participating merchants and only for transactions of $18.28 or less. The trial will run until the end of the year. Source: RFID World Network
