According to CCTV Finance, a subsidiary of Panasonic Group, a well-known Japanese manufacturing brand, admitted that it had committed violations such as data falsification when applying for product quality certification, which can be traced back to the 1980s.
Panasonic Industries said that in order to obtain relevant certification, it falsified data on the flame retardancy, or the anti-combustion properties, of electronic components used in automobiles, home appliances and other products. In addition, the company has long produced and sold products with different material compositions than those obtained when it was certified, which is also a violation of regulations.
It is reported that some of the violations began as early as the 1980s, involving a total of 7 factories of the company located in Japan and abroad, with as many as 52 types of illegal products. The total number of customer companies worldwide has reached about 400, and it has not yet been confirmed whether the Chinese market is involved.
On the 12th, the head of Panasonic Industrial Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Panasonic Group engaged in electronic components business, bowed and apologized at a press conference, admitting that in the process of applying for product quality certification from a third-party agency, there were violations such as tampering with test data.
Panasonic Industrial Co., Ltd. said that no faults have been found in the relevant products, and it will neither stop shipping nor recall the products. If the customer company requests it, it will provide alternative products. After the fraud was exposed, the companies under the Panasonic Group will conduct self-inspections to see if their products have the same problems.
