To be honest, as long as you mention AD7606, everyone should know that you have a lot to do with the power industry, because AD7606 is a synchronous sampling chip for the power industry. It also supports 8-channel differential ADC, and the input voltage can be set to the range of positive and negative 5V and positive and negative 10V, which meets most of the voltage threshold requirements.

AD7606 Block Diagram
AD7606 is a 16-bit synchronous sampling AD chip from ADI with a sampling rate of up to 200k. There are three models: AD7606/AD7606-6/AD7606-4, with 8, 6, and 4 acquisition channels respectively. In the power line measurement and protection system, a large number of current and voltage channels of the multi-phase transmission and distribution network need to be sampled synchronously. AD7606 is the most commonly used AD sampling chip in the power system. The chip integrates analog input clamp protection, second-order anti-aliasing filter, tracking and holding amplifier, 16-bit charge redistribution successive approximation ADC core, digital filter, 2.5V reference voltage source and buffer, high-speed serial and parallel interface. AD7606 is powered by a single 5V power supply, no longer requiring positive and negative dual power supplies, and supports true ±10V or ±5V bipolar signal input. All channels can be sampled at a rate of up to 200kSPS, and the input clamp protection circuit can withstand a voltage of up to ±16.5V. Traditional successive approximation (SAR) ADCs generally require an operational amplifier (op amp) to drive the internal sampling capacitors due to the design of the sampling capacitors. Because of the existence of this capacitor, its equivalent input impedance is related to the sampling frequency, and in some high sampling rate applications, the selection of the front-end driver op amp becomes very demanding. However, the signal conditioning circuit inside the AD7606 already includes a low-noise, high-input impedance signal conditioning circuit, and its equivalent input impedance is completely independent of the sampling rate and is fixed at 1Mohm. At the same time, the input end integrates a filter with 40dB anti-aliasing suppression characteristics, which simplifies the front-end design and no longer requires external drive and filtering circuits. Therefore, the signal output by the secondary transformer can be directly connected to the AD7606 without buffering by an op amp.

AD7606 integrates 2.5V bandgap voltage reference and reference buffer circuit, and its temperature coefficient is typically ±10ppm/℃. In design applications, the choice of built-in reference or external reference will depend on the system requirements. In the design of multiple ADCs, if high absolute accuracy is required, an external reference with high initial accuracy and low temperature coefficient should be used to eliminate the error caused by the difference between the built-in references of different devices. It is recommended to use ADR421B with an initial accuracy of 0.04% and a temperature coefficient of 3ppm/℃. If the numerical matching between multiple ADC channels is required, the first AD7606 can be set to work in the built-in reference mode, and the remaining AD7606 can be set to the external reference mode, and then the built-in reference output of the first AD7606 can be supplied to the remaining AD7606. In this way, the matching of data between multiple AD7606 channels can be guaranteed without adding an external reference, but the absolute accuracy of the system depends on the performance of the built-in reference.
I have summarized the reasons why AD7606 is so widely used in the power industry. The main features are as follows:
1: Synchronous sampling function
The synchronous sampling function mainly has a sampling mechanism inside the AD7606 to ensure that the numbers sampled by the ADC are at the same time, which ensures the comparability of waveform data in the power industry.
2: Up to 16-bit resolution
High-resolution ADC can truly and effectively reflect the changes in voltage and current. The voltage in the power industry is usually relatively high, and there will be a certain loss of accuracy through the conversion of current transformers and voltage transformers. The 16-bit resolution of ADI ensures that the accuracy loss in the secondary circuit is minimized.
3: Up to 8 channels of differential sampling
As we all know, the power system is divided into three phases by ADC, and these three phases need to measure the current, voltage, bus voltage and bus current at the same time, and 8 channels just meet this need. So the perfect design makes it the best choice.
4: Reasonable price and just the right performance
ADI's domestic selling price is about 50-60 yuan, which is reasonable. We all know that the domestic alternating current is 50Hz, so the sampling rate of AD7606 is 200K, which meets the complete sampling of current and voltage changes within one cycle, and can restore the authenticity of current changes to the maximum extent. The performance is just right, not too much and not too little. This is the biggest advantage of AD7606.
