Import 3D footprints into PCB library
When we do PCB wiring, we sometimes ignore structural problems, as shown in the following figure
In the picture above, you can't see the specific structure at all.
The picture above shows the structural parts more intuitively.
Let’s see how to do it.
These are PCB circuit boards. There is no problem with the plane wiring, but the height problem is easily overlooked. It may not be discovered until the first batch of proofs, which will delay the production and delivery cycle. Let's see how to solve the above problem.
We just need to adjust the buttons as above in the PCB wiring interface.
The above picture shows the intuitive height of the plug-in. Let’s see how to add a 3D package to the PCB package in the component library.
Open a PCB file and select Place from the Place menu.
Click to place the 3D component.
Click "Generic 3D Model" and select load 3D file "load from file" to enter the file manager and confirm the file path.
Note: "Generic 3D Model" is a regular 3D model, because AD cannot produce complex 3D models, it can only produce relatively simple cubic devices (such as 0603, 1206, etc.) or cylindrical packages, such as electrolytic capacitors, and cannot add any details. Select to import the 3D model at a time.
Note that you can add file types here: there are three file formats that can be added, STEP, SOLIDWORKS PART FILE, PARASOLID FILE. I have only come into contact with two of these formats. In most cases, we choose step files and Solidworks Part File files. Solidworks files have version recognition issues, such as ad16 software only supports versions before solidworks16, and other versions are not supported. STEP files are not limited.
The structural difference between STEP and solidwork
STEP files are fixed files and cannot be changed, similar to the PDF version of Word. If they are not suitable for PCB packaging, they must be redrawn and cannot be changed.
Solidworks files can be modified, and the files have a model tree, which can be assembled and parameter adjusted. The file size is larger than STEP files.
Place the mouse at a suitable location and click the interface to release the 3D package (the red box is the boundary of the 3D package). Just place it at a suitable location as I did.
After adjusting the position, we switch to 3D view
3D footprints can be dragged in 3D mode.
Just click Save.
