I saw the RISC-V Linux system [Copy link]

I applied for the VisionFive development board these days. From the introduction alone, it seems that it can compete with the Raspberry Pi. Although the CPU on this board does not have a GPU module, it is said that the MPU with a GPU module will soon be available, so I am still looking forward to it. In addition, there is an HDMI interface on the board, which means that the Linux desktop system can be used. If this is the case, then it can be said that risc-v has entered the practical stage. If you are not particularly pursuing performance, you can officially use risc-v in some occasions. The focus of this time is to examine whether it can be competent in some industrial occasions (mainly the scene of using Raspberry Pi). Find out what problems there are in practical occasions, especially whether some libraries can be used in development, such as: QT, GTK+, LVGL, etc.
This time, we also need to compare it with the Raspberry Pi from the perspective of power consumption. Of course, power consumption is not very important when using the Raspberry Pi. If all aspects are close to the ARM system, it means that we are more likely to use risc-v mobile phones.
While learning about the board, I also learned about RISC-V Linux. At present, Red Hat and Ubuntu both support the RISC-V64 system. The participation of these two companies also shows that RISC-V is also moving towards commercial operation. Judging from the current trend, RISC-V is likely to become the main force after x86 and arm64. It is also likely to become a desktop system. Of course, this is not a sure thing, just like the early power PC once posed a threat to Windows, but later it became a historical dust due to various complex business operation problems. In fact, it is mainly because its system is too expensive. It is not that the cheaper the system, the better. No commercial company will invest without profit, which may also lead to failure. If a large number of companies are in a melee, it will not be conducive to development. These problems are not easy to figure out, and I don’t understand you either. This is like the current industrial policy. Many companies are gathering together to cheat and eat, which has caused immeasurable losses to the implementation of the country’s strategy. In my opinion, the development of RISC-V is still foggy. For now, does this situation indicate that the era of RISC-V is coming to us? What do you think about this?

There are rumors that StarFive has a close relationship with SiFive, but I don’t know if it’s true or not. Anyone who knows please share some information. It’s better to use gossip instead of official rumors. Don’t make up rumors about important things!

Run the performance test first, and then run the graphics test after it has grown stronger.   Details Published on 2022-5-25 20:11

Without a GPU, the experience of running a desktop system is indeed poor. In this respect, it is still far behind Raspberry Pi.

I see you are talking about this board in the forum review channel: https://bbs.eeworld.com.cn/elecplay/content/213 The JH7100 on this board (dual-core without GPU, 1.0GHz) is an ecological chip and is not on the market. The corresponding product on the market is the JH7110 (JH7110) which has better performance than it.  Details Published on 2022-5-23 09:54

The performance of this board is roughly on par with that of Raspberry Pi 2, and some experts have done a review on it.

Starfive Technology and Sifive are two completely independent companies that have business cooperation. It would be inappropriate to describe them as having a close relationship.

Octopus Sir published on 2022-5-23 10:37 The performance of this board is about the same as that of Raspberry Pi 2. Some experts have done a review. Starfive Technology and Sifive are two completely independent companies...

1. StarFive Dubhe 64-bit RISC-V core will be used in 12nm, 2GHz processors - CNX Software Chinese site (cnx-software.cn)

2. RISC-V follows ARM and establishes StarFive Technology to flaunt its independence. Recently, Shanghai StarFive Technology Co., Ltd. officially released its new English name and corporate logo Shanghai StarFive Technology Co.... - Xueqiu (xueqiu.com)

3. Shanghai Saifang Technology Co., Ltd. - Qichacha (qcc.com)

4.RISC-V Star Rising from the East – Introducing StarFive - RISC-V International (riscv.org)

It is true that you can find a lot of information about StarFive and SiFive on the Internet, but it is difficult for ordinary people like us to verify whether they have a "connection" (Qichacha may be a reference, but you have to pay to see the complete information).

According to the first link, the CPU core of Jinghong 7100 should be designed by SiFive.

The fourth one is the official link of the RISC-V Foundation. It can be seen from this that StarFive and SiFive are currently partners, and StarFive is the only authorized partner of SiFive in China; so there is nothing wrong with saying they have a "close relationship".
