Cypress Embedded USB Host/Peripheral Controllers [Copy link]

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has introduced a version of its CY7C67300 EZ-Host? embedded USB host/peripheral controller optimized for automotive applications. The device meets the AEC (Automotive Electronics Council) Q100 specification and provides an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. It targets automotive "infotainment" applications, including connecting MP3 players, mobile phones and GPS systems to in-car radio communications and display systems. Cypress recently passed the automotive industry quality standard ISO/TS 16949 certification, which is designed to ensure the highest quality and reliability levels throughout the automotive supply chain.   EZ-Host device is a multi-port embedded host/peripheral controller that includes a high-performance 16-bit RISC microcontroller, two configurable USB serial interface engines (SIEs) and a configurable I/O function block that can connect to a variety of standard interfaces. It can be used as both a host and a peripheral and supports up to four host ports. It includes 16Kbyte RAM (to enable custom applications); multiple CPU interfaces; and an onboard BIOS to handle some USB processing. This embedded processor eliminates the need for an external CPU in many applications and can operate in co-processor mode.
  
  "Infotainment applications are a key growth area in the automotive market," said David Zimpfer, managing director of Cypress' automotive business. "Our EZ-Host solution provides ease of design and USB compatibility for many of the key applications in this area, and we plan to further develop automotive products related to USB. In addition, this product complements and improves other Cypress automotive solutions, including our PSoC?-based CapSense capacitive sensing interface, memory products and automotive image sensors."

Price and Availability
  Currently, Cypress can supply the CY7C67300 in a 100-pin TQFP package that meets the AEC standard. The unit price is $8.67 when purchased in quantities of 1,000.
