Electric vehicles use silicon carbide power devices to successfully move out of the laboratory [Copy link]

This post was last edited by Gen_X on 2021-6-25 10:29

It is reported that NIO's pure electric vehicles have stepped out of the laboratory using silicon carbide power devices to replace traditional IGBTs, with switching speeds and power consumption better than IGBTs.

The first ET7 has been put into use and has rolled off the C-sample production line at Nanjing Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center.

It is estimated that the maximum control current of the same volume will be increased by 30%. The use of this device can save 4%-6% of electricity, effectively increasing the endurance of electric vehicles.

This is another application after the use of silicon carbide in high-voltage frequency conversion (ultra-high voltage transmission and transformation).

I hope China can get out of the era of chip shortage as soon as possible!

We hope that it can be commercialized on a large scale as soon as possible, so that a virtuous circle can be formed and domestic chips can break through.   Details Published on 2021-6-28 08:48

The emergence of silicon carbide and gallium nitride is another baptism for devices

According to the publicity of the new material, the insulation breakdown field strength of SiC is 10 times that of Si (silicon), that is, the thickness of its epitaxial layer is 1/10 of that of Si, and its band gap and thermal conductivity are about 3 times that of Si. As a result, its volume is much smaller than that of Si-based components, but its working performance is stronger.

Very correct, looking forward to more use in the power-driven industry!

The State Grid's ultra-high voltage direct current transmission and transformation seems to be also trialing this type of device.
