Solar Calculator Disassembly [Copy link]

I bought four card-type solar calculators on Taobao for 10 yuan, but one of them didn’t work, so I took it apart and shared it with you.

The calculator is a card-shaped one, which is attached to the bottom board with adhesive tape and can be easily removed with a utility knife. After disassembling it, you can see that the calculator consists of several parts such as the motherboard, LCD, and solar cell, which is very simple.

I've disassembled several remote controls that weren't working properly these days.

Because it has not been used for several months and the air is humid in the south in summer, some buttons on the remote control need to be pressed hard to work properly; the battery is also rusted and swollen.

After taking it apart it was similar to this calculator. I used an eraser to rub the contacts on the PCB, cleaned the battery compartment and put it back and everything returned to normal.

I have a question, why can’t the remote control be made into light-powered? Is the cost too high?

If the remote control does not need to change the battery, there is no need to worry about the battery being damaged and corroding the remote control.

The transmission power of the remote control is relatively large, and the solar power supply is not enough.  Details Published on 2021-1-20 13:40

Calculators and remote controls are high-volume and universal products that are very cost-conscious. The chips are all bonded, the LCDs have no legs, and the PCBs are still single-panel. It's worth every penny to think of cheap.

What is this solar cell called? Can I buy it on Taobao? What is the voltage and current?

I read some information that the current is very small, so does the chip being bonded not need a processor? Is the current enough?

The amorphous silicon used in the calculator has better weak light characteristics. Generally, a single one is 0.5V, and the maximum current is only a few mA, so multiple series connections are required. Usually, 4 are connected in series on the calculator.  Details Published on 2021-1-20 17:19
