How to optimize building and home automation design for energy efficiency [Copy link]

This post was last edited by qwqwqw2088 on 2020-12-9 08:12

Energy efficiency is one of the most important design considerations when developing building automation products. Some new wireless smart sensors can operate for more than five years when powered by a single coin cell battery, and some can even last for 10 years or more. In this white paper, I will discuss the various advances in energy efficiency in building automation.
We first look at how nanowatt integrated circuits (ICs) are increasing functionality and reducing power consumption, and how recent advances have enabled low power consumption and long operating life. The average current consumption of nanowatt devices can be measured in nanoamperes (nA) (one billionth of an ampere). A standard CR2032 coin cell battery used in a long-range wireless smart building sensor can provide about 2,100nA of current for 10 years.
