The domestic MCU microcontroller market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 11.7% in the next five years, and the market space will reach more than 50 billion yuan by 2020. According to IC Insights, as the Internet of Things continues to be popular, MCU shipments will continue to rise. In 2018, global MCU shipments will increase by 18% to 30.6 billion units, and revenue is expected to increase by 11%. In the next five years, the global MCU sales will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.2%, and will exceed 20 billion US dollars by 2020. In 2016, the domestic MCU market reached 36 billion yuan, and the future compound annual growth rate will reach 11.7%, and the market will exceed 50 billion yuan by 2020.

The top eight foreign MCU manufacturers account for 88% of the global market share, and the gap between domestic MCU companies is obvious. The global MCU controller field has accelerated the pace of mergers and acquisitions. The market share of the top eight MCU manufacturers in the world, such as NXP and Renesas, has reached 88%, and the head concentration effect is obvious. The only listed companies in China with MCU as their main business are Zhongying Electronics and GigaDevice, and the scale of MCU revenue does not exceed 500 million yuan, which is obviously different from foreign giants.
Domestic MCU manufacturers are actively deploying in the general-purpose market and the mid-to-high-end special-purpose market. At present, domestic manufacturers are developing rapidly in the mid-to-low-end application fields of MCUs such as consumer electronics and smart instruments, but in many fields with relatively large market space, such as industrial control, automotive electronics, and the Internet of Things, they are monopolized by foreign MCU manufacturers. There is still a huge space for domestic companies to strive for through hard work. Domestic MCU manufacturers represented by GigaDevice MCU are actively deploying in the 32-bit general-purpose chip market. At present, they have formed a product matrix of nearly 20 series and more than 300 chips. New products represented by the ARM Cortex-M4 series have entered the high-end market.

Strengthen the advantages in specialized fields and help domestic manufacturers break through the market. The competition pattern in the general MCU field is stable. Foreign established manufacturers have strong advantages in performance, stability and brand, which are difficult for domestic manufacturers to shake. However, the amount of computing used for control by MCU is relatively small, and there is static demand in each specific application field. With the continuous enrichment and refinement of downstream application scenarios, higher requirements are placed on the integration, sensitivity and dedicated processing capabilities, power consumption and cost performance of MCU.
