What is network slicing?
3GPP TS38.300) : Network Slicing is a concept to allow differentiated treatment depending on each customer requirements. With slicing, it is possible for Mobile Network Operators (MNO) to consider customers as belonging to different tenant types with each having different service requirements that govern in terms of what slice types each tenant is eligible to use based on Service Level Agreement (SLA) and subscriptions.
1. Network slicing can be used by operators to provide isolated and customizable network services for different vertical industries, different customers, and different businesses based on the Service Level Agreement (SLA) business service agreement signed with customers. It is a logical network that provides specific network capabilities and features.
2. Logical network slices are carried by network slice instances. A network slice instance is a deployed network slice , including some network function instances and required resources (such as computing, storage, and network)
3. The same Tracking Area (TA) supports the same network slice
Network slicing is an end-to-end
A network slice is an end-to-end logical private network that provides specific network capabilities. A network slice instance is a collection of network functions and required physical/virtual resources.
The system may include access network, core network, transmission bearer network and application
Network slices can be built based on traditional proprietary hardware or on the common infrastructure of NFV/SDN. It is recommended to build them on a unified platform to achieve low-cost and efficient operations.
